THE BASICS
There are 11 main parts of an electric guitar, whereas the acoustic guitar has 12 different parts. Therefore there isn't much difference between them.
The slides below will show you the parts of a guitar as well as the correct way to hold a guitar.
Left hand: Your index, middle, ring and pinky finger should be resting on top of the fretboard, slightly curved. The thumb should be pressing down on the back of the neck most of the time.
Right hand: Your right hand is used to pluck strings with/ without your pick.
How to hold a pick: Your index finger and thumb should be connected to make an 'O' shape, the pick should be inbetween them.

The 1st string is the highest pich; it's the thinnest string, whereas the lowest pitched sting is the 6th; it is the thick one. The sequence E(low) A D G B E(high), I remember this by saying "Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie."

How to Tune a Guitar

(if you know your music)
If your 6th string (low E string) is alreay tuned to its normal pitch (E), then this is an easy way to tune your guitar.
The 5th string is normally 5 semitones higher than the 6th string. If you know that one fret is one semitone, you can figure out that pressing down the 6th string at the 5th fret will produce a pitch that is 5 semitones higher that the open string. The pitch that you hear now is the pitch that the open 5th string should sound like. So, turn the tuning key of the 5th string until the open string sounds the same as the fretted 6th string. You repeat this for both the 4th, 3rd and the 1st string.
Surprise! The 2nd string is only 4 semitones higher than the 3rd string. All you have to do is fret the 3rd string behind the 4th fret and repeat. The 2nd string is now in tune.
If not...
If you dont quite understand how to tell apart seminotes, you can always go to a guitar tuning website. There, it will play the proper note that each string should be. All you have to do is keep tuning the tuning pegs on your guitar to match the sound. But not too fast, if you arent careful with the tuning pegs, the strings could snap!
